Nota 1 : it (="ello" castellà). S'utilitza per parlar de coses o animals.

Nota 2: Short answers (=respostes breus).

Contestar simplement "sí" o "no" sona maleducat en anglès. La resposta breu és una manera educada de respondre "sí" o "no".

Exemple: Are you English? (=Ets anglesa?)  Yes (=Sí) ,  Yes, I am. (=Sí)    No (=No) , No, I'm not. (=No)

A diferència del català i el castellà el verb to be també es fa servir amb les expressions següents:

I’m 42 : (=Tinc 42 anys.)

I'm hungry: (=Tinc gana)

They're cold: (=Ells tenen fred.)
