THE RIGHT TO VOTE:
Today every citizen over the age of 18 is able to vote. It is a right we take for granted and one right that defines a democracy. But universal suffrage — letting everyone vote — was not easy to achieve.
Till 1931 in Spain, you had to be male and wealthy in order to vote, but some women dedicated their lives to change this. Without them, suffrage might still be the privilege of a chosen few.
But, as you surely know, not all women in all the countries can vote in the 21st century.
- What do you think about this?
(not all women in all the countries can vote in the 21st century.) - What do you think about to vote at the age of 16? and at the age of 14? (they should be extended and allowed to vote before 18?)
Write a short (10 lines) account and try to explain clearly the facts and also in a careful and respectful language. Thanks!
