Read th text and answer the questions:
African elephants are the largest living mammals on the ground. They grow all of their lives. Male African elephants can be 13 feet tall. They can weigh more than 10,000 pounds.
African elephants have big ears. They can be five feet long and have the shape of the continent of Africa. Elephants can flap their ears back and forth. Their big ears keep elephants cool.
Elephants eat all day long. They eat vegetables, such as leaves, grass and other plants. They eat fruit too.
Elephants use their trunks to catch food and put it in the mouth. They can suck water into the trunks and put the water into their mouths too. Elephants can drink up to 40 gallons of water a day!
Elephants use their trunks to pick up things, big or small. They breathe through their trunks too.
Elephants have two tusks. They are made of ivory. Elephants can use their tusks to dig and to fight.
People used to hunt elephantsfor their tusks. Ivory was used to make beautiful statues and jewelry It is ilegal to hunt elephants today, because hunting them made them have made elephants endangered animals.
