1. Review: Questions and answers Has it...got?



Has it got ... ?

Yes, it has.

No, it hasn’t

Example:     Has the cat got whiskers?                     Yes, it has.
Has it got scales?                                  No, it  hasn't.

2. Questions with CAN



Can it / they ... ?

Yes, it / they can.

No, it / they can’t

Example:     Can a hippo swim?                     Yes, it can.
Can rhinos fly?                           No, they  can't.

3. Review of the verb to be in present


AFFIRMATIVE FORM

4. Simple present Tense


We use the Simple Present Tense to talk about:


  • General facts
       Birds fly in the sky
       Lions live in the sabannah.
       A salmon swims in sea and rivers      


4.1. Simple present: Affirmative

We form the simple present using a name (or a personal pronoun) and the infinitive of the verb (without TO).

example: They(the elephants) walk in the jungle.


In 3rd person singular ( he / she / it ) we add an S to the verb.

example: It ( the bird) sings very well.

4.2. Simple present: Negative

We form negative of the simple present using the auxiliary verb do and the negative not (don't) between the subject and the verb .

example: They  (elephants) don't live in the desert.


In 3rd person singular ( he / she / it ) we use does not ( doesn't ) and the verb ( without S).

example: It (the snake) doesn't fly in the sky.


NEGATIVE FORM

4.3. Simple present: Interrogative

We form the interrogative of the simple present tense using the auxiliary verb do before the subject and adding a question mark ( ? ) at the end of the question.

example: Do they  eat other animals?


In 3rd person singular ( he / she / it ) we use does before the subject and the verb ( without S).

example: Does it eat plants?

5. Comparatives adjectives


We use comparatives to compare people, animals or things.
